England vs Paraguay

I can’t describe how lucky I was to go to this World Cup game. I am rather exhausted from a full day of excitement, we (uncle and I) left Luxembourg (June 10th) at 9:30am and returned at 10pm.

We arrived in Frankfurt to meet our host in front of his office. Traffic by the stadium was reported to be really heavy so our guide lead us to the game by tram instead of using his VIP parking pass– omg we had one to use?! See how I smiled when holding my ticket:

So we arrived to the crowded stadium, packed as expected– but I had expected to see a lot more cheering and chanting. I think it had something to do with the hype of English Hooliganism, which didn’t pan out and which I had secretly hoped to see and video tape.

I think I’m still in shock from the day because what I got at the game was much more than what I expected. We received a red hospitality badge along with our ticket, so we had access to a tent of food and drink (for before and after the game). I was very impressed by the efficiency of the whole hospitality operation. Each guest was assigned to specific rooms in large tents located close to his respective seat. Upon entering the tent, a stream (and series) of hostesses checked badges, pointed out directions, and sat us to our table; a bag containing a World Cup branded baseball cap, watch and money clip awaited us at this table. Each room had its own individual buffet so we weren’t waiting in line long for our food.

After a leisurely lunch, we made our way into the crowded stadium. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it sure wasn’t what I got. The seats were about as good as one can get. We were seated, on the teams & officiating side of the field, in the bottom level off to the left. The center section was blocked off with VIPs in leather seats, whereas we got the plastic stadium seating. The ticket numbering must have started with row 2 because there was only one row between our row 3 tickets and the field. I could have leapt the fence and tackle David Beckham before security (and 100,000 English fans in the city) beat the crap out of me.

Let’s just say that I was smiling all day, even though the game itself was kind-of slow and boring. England scored much much too early and Paraguay just couldn’t get it together to tie it up. I wanted to see a more aggressively played game.

BTW, I snuck my video camcorder into the game even though I was supposed to check it into security storage. I’ll try to get that video up later.

OMG! I don’t think I’ll ever will get seats this good ever again! But I’m sooo happy to have experience this at least once.

Lakers Playoff Tickets

For years and years it has been almost impossible to get Laker’s Playoff tickets for a reasonable price. By reasonable I mean not completely raped of half a thousand dollars, but kind of compromised for a little over a hundred. The year has finally come for me. One of my best friends, Jeff Miller, is interning for the clippers. Last week he got me tickets for the Clipper’s playoff game for free and that was amazing. He followed that up with letting me know I will be going to both Laker playoff games this weekend. To say I am kind of excited is like saying Bush is kind of dumb. He is really dumb and I am really excited.

World Cup Tickets Update

Moe and I had put in applications to purchase tickets to the World Cup in Germany; of which, my results came back:

Due to the high demand for tickets for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany (TM), the ticket applications correctly processed and accepted had to be entered into a draw. Unfortunately, you have not been allocated any tickets for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany (TM).

The message is annoying. Was the application not selected in the draw, or was it not even in the draw? Thanks to FIFA for the informative message *sarcasm*.

Maybe we’ll still get a couple of tickets from Moe’s application.
