Munich

Munich… So much in so little time. After I left Venice, I arrived in Munich to my host’s place for a few days of Munich touring. And touring is what I got, here are some highlights of what I saw:

Marienplatz:

Those are preserved tombstones on the side of the church. As Munich grew, they just paved over the cemetary next to the church.

The famous Viktualienmarkt, which has a nice beer garten area:

The famous Hofbrauhaus, where a certain fascist made his first infamous speech:

And more (sorry, laziness):

After some time in the city I have discovered that Munich offers the best European Metro system I have seen, a great pedestrian feeling, old buildings (that aren’t really old), cheap rent, great food, lots of beer, awesome parks and interesting museums. This city is someplace where I could live normally, as a truely non-tourist self. Wow.

Oh, the nice nice Englischer Garten park where one can swim (or surf) in its streams:

  1. If you’re still in the area, check out Mainz. Home of Johannes Gutenberg. They have a farmer’s market on saturdays at the Marktplatz. See buildings that use to house Teutonic Knights and stuff.

If you ever head to the Koln (cologne) area, you should check out Bonn and Dusseldorf. In Bonn, home of Beethoven. Also home of Haribo candies. (Haribo gummy bears!) There’s a Haribo store full of goodies.

  2. Good thing, that blog. Nice to know where you’re strolling. Yes. Munich is wonderful. But also mind Köln on your itinerary, it’s the most northern city of italy ;) and it’s my city.

    Hope to see you around!
