Lets Get Cheesy
6 Comments So I am online and I get this IM.
mirage: I just took some advil
me: umm ok, are you ok
mirage: I got really really sick
me: oh
mirage: Yea, i got really really sick of this bitch talking shit so I fought her.
me: Dang, and she broke your rib.
mirage: But you should have seen her, I don’t play like that homie.
ALthough I was afraid I continued the conversation. She starts telling me about how great cheese is. How all she is doing is eating cheese these days. I am even given a list of ones I should try. Rather then do it alone, I am thinking about having a Cheesy get together. Then another person reminds me of Beaujolais Nouveau.
Every year the first taste of the new wine harvest is eagerly anticipated in France and around the world. Parties are held, bottles are uncorked and the first sips of Beaujolais Nouveau are savored. But since this is a young wine, it would be out of character to get too serious at this party. A relaxed attitude in both presentation and attire should be the order of the day. After all, until the first bottle is uncorked, no one quite knows what to expect from it – so be prepared for surprises!
In keeping with the casual spirit of this occasion, a French wine and cheese party has the perfect laid back, but festive attitude. Although Beaujolais Nouveau is the reason for the party, its light, fruitiness goes best with mild flavors. Therefore, add interest to your event with a variety of French wines that will accompany a broad selection of French cheeses that range from mild to pungent.
Now I haven’t celebrated this day and honeslty am looking for an excuse to get people together to do this cheese thing with me…but whatever. So my idea is this
Cheese + wine + people + kicking back = fun
If you go ideas or what not, please do comment.
The Cheesy list
1. gouda(not smoked)

2. pepper jack, dated or extra pepper

3. feta (extra strong if i can get it)

4. brie (for shits and giggles)

5. blue cheese (on a cracker with tomatoes and such)

just plain awesome

That’s great Moe. If I were in So Cal, I’d love to join you guys. Your post reminded me of a recent study at UC Davis in regard to wine and cheese pairings: UC Davis study challenges classic wine-cheese pairings. There is also a diagram of some of the traditional pairing here: GourmetSleuth.
It’s a long way ’till the Beaujolais Nouveau release for the year. My recommendation would be to make sure you have a wide variety of wines. If everyone comes with Merlot and Chardonnay, it’s not going to be as much fun. Make everyone bring a bottle of varietals they’ve never heard of.
Have fun!

Brian you are offically not invited. Who ever else does not want to go, please say something rude as Brian did. Be warned, one of my few talents in life is being witty and mean.
