Versailles to Montpellier

Hi, I’m in Montpellier right now with my hosts– that’s south France. Had a great evening with dinner by the beach, followed by a walk on the beach. I think it was one of the most relaxed and enjoyable evenings so far this trip. I’m very glad I made it down here. It contrasts heavily with the Paris fast pace life. I’ve throttled back to a relaxed fun, instead of a fast fun.

I was worried that I wouldn’t have made it down here because I missed the first train cross country.

Anyways, about Versailles. I have mixed feelings about the place. When I went, the tour was awful. I went in the royal state apartments, and the decor and quality of the place just was bad. Didn’t care for it all, even with all the history. Plus they were renovating the Hall of Mirrors, thus I didn’t get to be impressed by it.

However, by the time I got out to spend hours getting lost in the Versaille gardens. Although I got rained on, it was very very cool. You really get a sense of the magnificent luxery based on the pure size of the place… It took me a good hour to circumnavigate the big grand canal of the place.
