Swimming Back into Form
No Comments I haven’t been as active as I’d like to be. I’m changing that. My plan? Stop at the gym and swim laps every Monday and Wednesday (and Friday when I can) for as hard as I can for 30 minutes.
And when I feel that I can do that constantly without feeling the painful exhaustion, then increase the time by 10 minutes. And so forth as I get better.
I’m feeling really good after a few weeks of just freestyle and backstroke. The only thing that is different now is my cardio and muscular endurance. But that too is getting better and I’ll be adding the 10 minutes in a couple of weeks. I’ll also start working up the backstroke and butterfly.
But I still have a long way to go. In junior high, I used to swim on the YMCA after school swim team for one and a half hours three days a week. At my peak right before I quite, I felt like I could swim a marathon using the butterfly. I can’t even do a proper lap of the butterfly now.
Yup. I have a long way to go.
