Jarhead

Written by Aaron on November 7, 2005 |

Okay, so I had seen the previews for Jarhead and been very interested in seeing the movie. I finally saw the movie recently.

It was everything I had hoped and more.

The cast was was excellent and every single member of the cast performed at their best. The direction was just plain beautiful and truly delivered a remarkable vision.

If you have any memories of the early 90’s what-so-ever this movie will most likely hit home for you. I assure you this is not your typical “War Movie”.

It made me think of Shakespeare’s Henry the Fifth act4 scene3. I’ll give you the shortened version:

And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

This movie made me hold my manhood cheap.

  1. I too liked the movie.

The movie did an incredible job with portraying the main character’s psyche, and how that psyche changed in conflict.

Nothing in the movie was politically preachy; no position on geopolitics. Everything was delivered almost as if they were bland statements of fact… based on his point of view.

Teens will be bored with this movie.

And I think the feel of the movie sums it up with a quote I read somewhere: “A War Movie without the War.”

  2. Yeah, i just saw it last weekend. It was a good movie. I think the advertisements were a little misleading for those looking for a war/action flick.

The war was abrupt just like it was for those stationed there.

    The ending was great too.
